Disability Insurance
Short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) insurances are provided by WVURC through Principal at no cost to benefits-eligible employees. Both STD and LTD benefits are considered a medical leave of absence, which is administered by the Medical Management office. To initiate a medical leave of absence, complete the online Medical Leave of Absence form.
Short-Term Disability (STD)
- The primary weekly benefit amount is 66 2/3% of your earnings, up to $1,000, minus other income sources.
- The benefits begin on the 8th day after the accident or illness. You must use five days of PTO first.
- The benefit duration is up to 12 weeks, determined on a case-by-case basis.
- Maternity (pregnancy and childbirth) are treated the same as any other disability.
Long-Term Disability (LTD)
- The primary monthly benefit amount is 66 2/3% of your earnings, up to $8,000, minus other income sources, for employees earning $80,000 annually or less. Employees earning more than $80,000 annually will have a primary monthly benefit amount is 66 2/3% of your earnings, up to $10,000, minus other income sources.
- The benefits begin after 90 days.
- The maximum benefit duration is one to three years based on age, and determined on a case-by-case basis.
