2018 QHDP with HSA
The WVU Research Corporation (WVURC) offers a Qualified High Deductible Plan (QHDP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) through Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. While WVURC offers several excellent health insurance options, none of those offerings provide the low cost and tax advantages of a QHDP combined with an HSA.
The QHDP is available at no cost for employee-only coverage and has low premiums for employee + one and family plans. The QHDP includes an individual deductible of $1,500 and a family deductible of $3,000, which includes both medical and pharmacy. Once the deductible is met, eligible services are covered at 100%.
An HSA, which allows you to save money pre-tax to pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses, is included with the plan. You can earn interest on the money in your HSA and invest it so it grows over time, tax-free. You retain the money in your HSA if you leave WVURC. Further, if you have money left over at the end of the plan year, it rolls over to the next plan year.
